The WE Factor
WE entertain. WE make friends. WE practice. WE challenge ourselves. WE perform. WE teach. WE learn. WE respect. WE laugh. WE cry. WE support. WE practice some more. WE travel. WE achieve. WE fall down. WE lift each other up. WE sweat. WE practice some more. WE care. WE find ourselves. WE find each other. WE dare. WE take pride. WE honor. WE ARE THE KILTIES!
The Kilties Drum and Bugle Corps exists for the benefit of the participants. The major goals of the organization are to create a positive environment that promotes character and social development, encourage a deep sense of camaraderie within the group, present a positive image to all outside the group that come into contact with it, and establish a system that allows for the achievement of performance excellence.
Founded in 1934, the Racine Kilties Drum and Bugle Corps has been evolving for over 70 years. The Kilties have taken another giant step forward in the last few years, and are known for their entertainment and excellence. The Kilties work hard on the practice field, entertain at every performance and then always be sure to take time to enjoy the family atmosphere that is created through such a strong organization. The Kilties are also associate members of the Clan Buchanan - an honor we hold in high esteem.
Scott Stewart - Director/Program Coordinator
Under the leadership of director and program coordinator, Scott Stewart, the performance level of the Kilties has taken a giant step forward. Well-known and well respected within the drum corps community, Stewart was the Director of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps from 1977 to 2002, and program coordinator from 1980 to 2002. In 2006, he led the very successful Madison Scouts Alumni Reunion Project.
A Realistic Schedule
The rehearsal schedule and performance schedule has been established out of consideration for your busy life. It is as light as possible but it still allows us the ability to reach the levels of excellence we all expect. In order for this to work, everyone must understand that all rehearsals and performances are mandatory and you must be on time. The other half of the equation is that all individual work must be done on your own time so that rehearsals as a group can focus on the ensemble. If you need help at home, we will arrange for someone to help you.
Preparation for the 2010 Season
In the preparation season (December through May), we will rehearse one weekend each month (Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) beginning on December 5th and 6th. More information about this first kamp weekend as well as the remainder of the winter schedule will be available soon.
Performance Season
In the performance season (June through August), we continue to rehearse and perform on Saturdays and Sundays, with the exception of a few required Fridays. In addition to having all of your weekdays free, we also have one full weekend off each month.
Unless announced otherwise, all rehearsals will be held at:
2330 Northwestern Avenue
Racine, Wisconsin
